Academic Environment
IAS-STS offers excellent research infrastructure and provides Research Fellows and Visiting Scholars with a well-equipped workplace and excellent information and communication facilities. All fellows and scholars have access to IFZ's library and to university libraries in Graz. There is also close cooperation with researchers at the IFZ, which provides an atmosphere of creativity and schlolarly discussion.
IAS-STS is integrated into a network of universities in Graz, for example, Graz University of Technology, University of Graz, and University of Applied Sciences - FH Joanneum. Some 50,000 students add to the social and cultural life of the city.
Graz also hosts Joanneum Research, one of the largest non-university research institutions in Austria, boasting more than 400 researchers, as well as the Austrian Academy of Sciences, Christian Doppler Research Association and the European Training and Research Centre for Human Rights and Democracy. Furthermore, a number of science-technology-industry-clusters and networks are located in Graz, such as the Green Tech Cluster, the Wood Cluster, the Styrian nanotechnology initiative nanoNET, the Creative Industries Styria, BEST - Bioenergy and Sustainable Technologies and Know-Center.
