Project at IAS-STS: Train Connections from Türkiye to Austria and the Development of the Turkish Railway System in the 20th and 21st CenturyThis project explores the evolution of the Turkish railway system from both historical and contemporary perspectives, with particular attention to its links with Austria and the wider European railway network. It investigates how rail transport has contributed to technological modernization, international connectivity, and sustainable mobility over time. Drawing on historical records and academic literature, the research seeks to identify key developments that have shaped railway infrastructure and cross-border transportation between Türkiye and Europe. By examining these processes through an interdisciplinary lens, the project aims to provide insights into the social and economic significance of railway networks and their continuing role in promoting international cooperation and sustainable transport policies.
