Project at IAS-STS: Right and Duty in Genome Medicine: A Regulatory Approach for Individual Autonomy, Risks and Social Justice in Human Subject Research
The focus of this project is on various legal, ethical and social issues on human subject research in the development and application of modern biotechnology. Human subject research plays a significant role to the development of novel medical technology and new medicine, which are thought to have great importance to improve the health condition of present and future generations and may entails with considerable profile to the researchers and drug industries. How to ensure the enhancement of this new biomedicine will not compromise or scarify the right of the human subjects will be the main theme of this research.
The project will seek to indicate and reconsider the relationships between human subjects, PI/research conducts, physicians, members of institutional review board; sponsors and industries in different types of human subject research in terms of risks and benefits sharing, and to clarify the rights and obligations of each party involved. In addition, it is the intention of this project to propose a feasible regulatory approach, taking into account of both social justice and benefits/risks sharing, towards a win-win relationship between the human subjects and research conductors/sponsors.
