Marinova, Dora | Australia
Dora Marinova’s visit in Graz was an opportunity for her to continue her research in relation to conceptualising the issues of sustainability as they translate to Indigenous communities in Australia. Sustainability is a relatively recent Western phenomenon, however Indigenous communities have survived and looked after the Australian environment for thousands of years and well before the European settlement. Despite the power of western culture and western values, many of the traditional institutions within the Australian Aboriginal society still remain and they play a crucial role in sustaining these communities and their settlements. Issues analysed include among others sustainability of indigenous knowledge, cultural economy and settlement vulnerability within the context of globalisation.
